Requirements for windlass anchor winch

Windlass is used for hoisting and anchoring, and is also used for mooring. China’s code has the following requirements for windlass:

1.The windlass shall be driven by independent prime mover.

2.The rated tension of windlass shall not be less than 41.68d2N(4.25d2kgf), when d<25mm, the rated tension shall not be less than 36.8d2N(3.75d2dgf),d is the chain diameter, the unit is mm. The average anchor heave speed should not be less than 9m/min when rated tension is used.

3.The windlass shall be able to work continuously for 30min under rated tension and rated speed, and it shall be able to work continuously for 2min under overload tension of not less than 1.5 times of rated tension. In addition, windlass should also be equipped with overload protection device, overload can be transferred to the medium-speed operation.

4.The brake device on the chain wheel of the windlass should work reliably and be able to brake the tension force of 45% of the breaking load of the anchor chain (when the free anchoring speed reaches 5~7.5m/s, there are still suburbs to brake the sliding anchor chain); There should be a clutch between the chain wheel and the load shaft of the windlass. Brake and clutch should be easy to operate and reliable; The windlass should be able to rotate smoothly and rapidly.

5.The installation of windlass shall ensure that the three eyes (anchor chain barrel, chain maker and sprocket) are aligned when the anchor chain is drawn out.There are two types of windlass, horizontal and vertical. The vertical windlass is also called capstan, and its power part is located below the deck to save the deck area. For large ships, vertical windlass is also used because the size of windlass is too large, the bow deck is difficult to accommodate, and it is not good for operation.

Malfunction analysis of windlass anchor winch

Unable to anchor and lift

AC power is not connected;
Fuse is burned out, control circuit has no power supply;
The electromagnetic brake part is faulty and cannot be released.;
Master controller is out of control;
Zero voltage relay can’t work normally;

Electromagnetic brake part cannot release

Transformer is faulty, internal primary or secondary coils have short circuit or open circuit, check the transformer.
Rectifier circuit is faulty. Check whether the diode in the rectifier circuit is open or short-circuit.
Fuse is burned out, no DC output.
Master controller can not be connected normally, resulting in no DC output.
Resistor is break.
Breaking, short circuit or grounding of brake coil.
